Designed brings together an extremely diverse group of people from a wide range of cultures, languages, and experiences — that's a strength, and it requires everyone to do their part to keep the community welcoming, respectful, safe, and civil.

The full [Code of Conduct](/legal/code-of-conduct) covers encouraged behavior (being inclusive, giving respectful feedback, assuming good intent) and unacceptable behavior (harassment, intolerance, spamming) in detail. It's worth reading in full — it's what every interaction on Designed, from a Critique comment to a mentoring relationship, is measured against.

Our Code of Conduct

If you see or experience behavior that breaks the [Code of Conduct](/legal/code-of-conduct), reach out to a moderator directly. In our Slack community, type **!mods** in the **#_support** channel to message all moderators at once.

By default, reports are kept anonymous to the rest of the community, though shared among moderators reviewing it — say so explicitly in your report if you'd like it kept anonymous from other moderators too. We won't name reporters without consent.

Privacy and your data

A lot of "free" platforms are free because you're not the customer — you're the product. Your activity gets tracked, packaged, and sold to advertisers, and the whole business only works if that keeps happening. Designed doesn't work that way, and it never has.

We have never, and will never, sell your data to anyone, for any reason. We have never shared it with advertisers or data brokers either. This isn't a policy that could quietly change if a business need showed up later — it can't, because [Designed is a nonprofit](/help/membership-donations/designed-is-a-nonprofit). We're funded by donors and volunteers, not by an ad business built on your data, so there's no version of "the numbers didn't work out" that ends with your information for sale.

We do collect some information — an account has to store something. All of it goes toward running the product itself:
