Scenic artist Nikolay Laukhin creates large-scale backdrops for the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg. And I mean seriously large-scale: You might wonder how many levels of scaffolds he has to erect in order to paint one of those pieces. The answer is, none. Here's how he and his team do the work: I remember a Foundation Year exercise where they had us draw with a pencil on a stick, but it wasn't that long!
