The development story of Citröen's iconic 2CV is a good one, and we covered it here. That model had an incredible production run, over four decades, that ended in the '90s. Now Citröen is returning to the well with their new 2CV Concept, an affordable EV. Embracing the spirit of the original 2CV, the company has designed it to be as stripped-down and low-cost as possible. The vents are essentially two covered holes directly below the windshield. The lightweight front bench seat can be popped out and used as an actual bench. The door handles are fabric straps. The dashboard is ultra minimal, with graphics designed to recall comic book art. There is a larger 8" touchscreen for navigation. The roof is fabric. Instead of a center console, there's a removable storage basket. The radio and speaker is a single unit, and is also removable. An amusing touch: Harkening back to the original's farmer-friendly design brief, the storage compartment in the door is designed to hold eggs. The company says they've kept the vehicle's weight down to one metric ton (2,205 lbs), which will allow for a smaller, cheaper battery. The production target date is sometime in 2028, with a target price of just €15,000 (USD $16,800).
